Description: About this shell: Name: Epitoniidae Epitonium (Epitonium) ScalareAuthor: Linnaeus, 1758Common Name: Precious WentletrapSize: 59.40 mmLocality: TaiwanOrigin: Traded with Phil Crandall - 1977. Collected live by dredger in depth of 100-150 meters - 1976. This is a top choice - collectors specimen - it's BIG and includes its operculum. These specimens in this quality, condition and maturity are hard to come by. This specimen has been in our family collection for nearly 50 years and acquired from Phil Crandall (well-known sheller/collector and family friend) in 1977. If you are wanting a pair, I have a 2nd specimen that is smaller (53.76 mm) - is another collectors specimen. Send me a message via ebay if you're interested in possibly acquiring both specimens. This is part of our late father's large collection of seashells he obtained while stationed on Okinawa, Japan in 1974-1978. His interests in shells grew from more than the Indo-Pacific species when he engaged in trading his shells with some of theprominent collectors around the world. He was an avid scuba diver and seashell collector. The results of many deepdives led to the creation of a collection of some of the best shells Okinawa had to offer. Ted's shells have been cared for and stored for the past 50 years. All are in excellent condition. My sister and I are listingshells after researching them for value, quality and uniqueness. We are not conchologists and are giving our opinion onthe condition and quality of the shell when compared to other listings. My sister and I have two ebay accounts to list my father's shells. If you don't see anything of interest in my listing, please look at the shells my sister hasposted (username: rayd8ter).
