Description: Echinacea Purpurea – Doubledecker also known as the Coneflower, is a unique double coneflower, it is noted for its two-tiered flowers, that have long, reflexed, ray petals that are a deep rose-pink color, that surround a dark brown central cone. The cone is then topped with a set of shorter petals that shoot upward. This is definitely one cool looking flower! While single flowers are produced in the first year sometimes, a high percentage of two-tiered flowers appear from the second year forward, and they have either a single or double set of petals. They have been cultivated as a hardy perennial since the 1700s and were used by the early Native Americans to cure wounds and infections. These flowers have a blooming season ranging from mid – late Summer, thrives in full sun in dry to medium moisture soils that are well draining, and will grow up to 40 inches tall.
