Plumes is based on the classic mid-range overdrive and was developed by incorporating the essence of EQD in abundance. The sound retains the characteristics of the midrange while improving its tension and power. The result is an overdrive with a strong presence that can carry an ensemble forward.For the circuit, JFETs were used instead of the RC4558 op-amp and BJT transistor buffer used in the original. This raised the input impedance to nearly 10 megohms, which reduced noise and gave more high-frequency resonance.The sound of the Plumes is clearer and pushes the tube amp you are using harder.In addition to Volume, Gain, and Tone controls, three clipping modes are selectable. Mode 1 is the LED symmetrical mode, which produces the strongest distortion in Plumes. When used with a clean amp, it produces a classic British amp-like sound. Mode 2 is a clean booster. The signal goes directly to the op-amp without clipping. Mode 3 is a distortion using asymmetrical silicon diodes. It is the closest thing to the "screamer" distortion in Plumes, but has more output and a much clearer sound than the original. This model has a flexi-switching feature.
