Description: Early American sampler completed by Amelia Mackay Prichard age 14 in April 1839. She was born in Concord Mass on November 1, 1834, and died in New York City on her birthday, November 1, 1901 age 77. She must have been visiting relatives in NYC as she completed the sampler there, and moved there later in life. The Latin inscription is from Virgil’s Aeneid on Roman greatness “Hae tibi erunt artes pacis” (These will be your arts - peace). Nicely framed.
