Description: Offered here is a Coronation mug for King Edward VIII for May 1937 – it never happened. He became King following the death of his father George V in January 1936 and he abdicated the throne in December 1936 “for the woman I love” and married Wallace Warfield Simpson – a divorced American woman. The monarchy was given to his next younger brother King George VI (Queen Elizabeth’s father). The cup is marked with hallmark of British Pottery Manufacturer’s Federation. A very sad story indeed since the couple was banished from Court and lived in France for most of their life together. David (his preferred common name) was thereafter known as David Windsor, Duke of Windsor.
