Description: Centennial Exhibition 1876 Glass Hand Vase, 7 inches high, marked on cuff “Centennial 1876”, probably made by Gillinder Glass Co. at the exposition in Philadelphia, there are 2 chips on the bottom edge rim, there are chips to the serrated edges at the top of the vase, there is a scuff to the frosted finish of the inside of the wrist, some embedded dirt is on the top back of the pattern that needs to be cleaned, American manufacturers set up mini factories at the Centennial Exhibition in order to produce examples of their products that could be sold to visitors as souvenirs, this is a nice size example, a ladies hand reaches up from a conical sleeve to hold a sheaf of wheat, made in a 2 part mold with seams on either side, the detail is quite nice with seed heads embossed in the glass that flair out above the hand which even has delicate fingernails, nice historical piece.
