The photograph shows the gardens with Calcutta's High Court in the background and two visitors to the right side. Eden Gardens was originally part of the governor general's estate, and called Auckland Circus Gardens after George Eden, Lord Auckland India's governor general 1836-1842, then the name was changed to Eden Gardens, apparently after his sisters Emily and Fanny. During colonial times, Eden Gardens was a popular place for upscale Brits to take a walk or a drive. Very good condition, small crease to bottom left corner.
