Beethoven - Fidelio - Nilsson, McCracken, Maazel

Description: This 1964 British import stereo 2LP box set from London Records (OSA-1259) features Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio. The starring role is played by Birgit Nilsson. The cast is accompanied by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lorin Maazel. Album notes are in English, and are part of a large (album-sized) and extensive booklet also containing the libretto in both the original German and an English translation. The outer box is in excellent condition, and both front and back covers have no corner splits or other damage; however, the wraparound binding (with the stamped spine titles) is flaking away at the back edge. It is still in one piece, and hinges normally, but appears to be quite fragile with age. The box also shows a small collection index sticker in the upper right corner of the back (Photo 2). The discs have a couple minor smudges that will not affect playback. Note that they are auto-coupled (one disc has sides 1 and 4, and the other has sides 2 and 3). This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
