Description: This imposing 1st edition copy of the fairy tales of the brothers Grimm is packed full of 40 colour tipped in plates by Arthur Rackham. The plates are covered with titled tissue guards and there are numerous black and white illustrations by Rackham as well. This edition was translated by Mrs Edgar Lucas and published by Constable & Company in 1909. The book is offered in its original gilt decorated red cloth boards. Condition There are some condition issues with this book, hence the price. The issues mainly related to the binding that is coming loose in parts. The book is complete along with all of the 40 colour plates. There are a few pages that are completely detached, but present. A couple of the tissue guards are missing and a couple are detached. Two of the colour plates have creases to one corner. The book is splitting at the gutter in a number of places. The boards have some light surface dirt and bumping to the edges. There is a slight loss to the red on the back board. The left hand side of the spine is split to about halfway down. There is very occasional spotting.In the right hands this book can be restored to its former glory.
