Description: For sale is a beautiful lithograph of a dynamic scene at sea. A ship with full rigging is sailing at full sail over the Atlantic. (I guess, at closer inspection, we can see two top sails and a rear main sail that are not). A smaller skiff can be seen in the background. This is the kind of nautical scene, absolutely faithfully rendered, that Grant is famous for. This print is one from a very limited production (250). This print was created in his New England Period when he was a member of the Associated Artists group in Chicago. Grant spent long periods with the fishermen of Gloucester and the Cape in Maine, and had many friends who were seamen. This gives added depth to his work. Grant's most famous print is of the battleship "Constitution" which hangs in the White House in Washington, D.C. This print has age toning that is consistent across the print. It also has glue marks around the outer edge where it was glued to the matting. This was unfortunately commonly done in the 30’s and 40’s. All these condition issues can be solved with cleaning by a conservator. These are seldom put up for sale as they are true treasures. I am selling the collection of a lifetime, and will have several Gordon Hope Grant pieces for sale.
