Description: This is the rare Made in Scotland ARISTON Integrated Amplifier serial #000531. Although this is being sold FOR PARTS or REPAIR, I have performed a half-day of cleaning, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Here's what I did and what I discovered: When I received this unit, it was absolutely filthy as was the tape covered remote. I refer you to the "BEFORE" photo posted in this listing. Before testing, I...Cleaned and detailed the case. During removal of the cover, I discovered some rust on the front edges which has been treated. See photo. Cleaned and treated all RCA's, speaker outputs, headphone output, AC inlet, photo ground, balance pot, power button terminals, and fuses with DEOXIT. Removed the packing tape from the remote, disassembled it, washed it, and reassembled it. During this exercise, I discovered an old corroded 9V battery still inside which had destroyed one of the remote's snap-on terminals. The existing 9V connector was desoldered from the pcb and a new one was installed. After cleaning, I continued my investigation and bench testing. Here's what I found: The amp powers on and the remote works. After adjusting bias and DC Offset (see photos), both speaker and headphone outputs work, but there is a low level hum coming from the right speaker channel. I didn't hear any hum coming from the left channel.I was unable to test the phono input but I did test the CD, AUX, TUNER, and TAPE IN inputs. The CD input appeared to work flawlessly but when switching to the other inputs, a pop would occur and more popping when the volume was raised or lowered. You can hear this in the video posted with this listing. The power button is unreliable and needs to be replaced. The replacement (Bulgin H8553VBBG3) can be purchased from Mouser. Sale comes with original remote but does NOT include power cable. This is SOLD AS IS - FOR PARTS or REPAIR. NO RETURNS.
