Description: This is a beautiful example of a Westerwald pottery, this pitcher is from 19th century. The intricate floral motifs, cobalt blue decoration and beautifully designed pewter lid are classic elements of Westerwald pottery. The cobalt blue design on salt glaze pottery boosts a glorious floral pattern surrounding a stunning central figure of winged woman holding a sword with birdlike feet. The detailed pewter lid is attached to the handle by an ornate thumb lift. This piece is in very good condition. It stands approximately 12 inches tall x 8 inches at the widest part. The only marking is the impressed (mold number) 295 on the bottom. The only flaws I can see is it is worn on the side of the lid and shows wear and a couple of very small chips on the bottom.
