Description: Stevens and Williams amethyst glass powder box. Measures approx 6.5”L x 6.75”H. Cracks to lid. *Acquired from the formerly Packwood House Museum, Lewisburg, PA (1972-2020). Packwood House Museum was among the oldest log-built structures in Pennsylvania, originally constructed as a two-story log cabin between 1796 and 1799. The building expanded throughout the 19th century and operated as a tavern and hotel until 1886. In 1936 Lewisburg native Edith Fetherston and her husband, John, purchased the 22-room building as a retirement home, and filled it with art and antiques from Pennsylvania and across the world. They named their home “Packwood” after the Fetherston family ancestral estate in England. The Fetherstons left their home and collections in a trust to create “a Public Museum for the educational benefits of all persons”. In accordance with their wills, Packwood House Museum opened to the public in 1972.
