Description: Antique Roycroft 1900 Little Dark Brown Jug East Aurora NY Moonshine / Maple Syrup Jug Great early antique Roycroft jug here. The mark on the bottom is quite worn, but if you know what you're looking for you'll be able to see it right off. Excellent example. Little brown jug made in East Aurora, New York, U.S.A. circa 1895 - 1938 by The Roycroft Pottery Shops. The maker's mark is very faint, difficult to see which makes this jug earlier, between 1890-1910. The later logo is very well defined and those jugs are between 1920-1938. Jug sits approximately 5" tall and 4" across. A great addition to your collection. This is a beauitful home decor piece, it even looks good in the "man cave" ! History - In 1895 Elbert Hubbard founded the Roycroft Campus in East Aurora, New York, carving the motto "Head, Heart, Hand" into the front door of the Inn. Roycroft would become a cornerstone of the American Arts & Crafts Movement, employing 500 artisans at its peak and supplying hand crafted products to over 300 retail outlets around the country until 1938. The Roycroft Campus is a National Historic Landmark. Original Roycroft Trademark The Original Roycroft trademark was adapted from a symbol used by a school of 14th Century monks to identify their hand illuminated manuscripts. This single "R" brand appeared on Roycroft Merchandise fabricated in East Aurora from 1895 to 1938. Condition: Very good antique condition. No chips, or cracks. Has the expected antique pottery imperfections with glaze pops, sand bumps, and glaze skips - normal for these pieces. Brown glaze is bright with little wear for age of piece. Very good shape.
