Description: Antique Print “Whale Fishing Off HAWAII 1833, Thomas Birch Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE VINTAGE FRAMED PRINT Wonderful vintage color print in old black painted wood frame measuring about 12-1/2" wide by 9-1/2" deep. Featuring a detailed image of whaling ships off the island of Hawaii, the original title was "A Shoal of Sperm Whale Off The Island Of Hawaii", done by marine artist Thomas Birch in 1833. Print depicts sailors in the act of harpooning a pod of whales against a cloud filled sky - the title box of WHALE FISHING OFF HAWAII, 1833 has been cut and overlaid on the corner underneath the matte as shown. Complete with simple metal look hanger, this hung in my Grandfather's basement - I am assuming it is an early print. Condition is very nice - no fading - several pin point dots in the clouds - minor tanning to the matte - securely mounted - frame has minor scuffing to the paint. Just a nice old print - fun addition to any collection or display! Please note, print is toning a bit bright due to images being taken through the glass. Please contact me with any questions!
