Description: This is a beautiful portrait of a Lady in all her finery, including a silk gown with puffed sleeves, pleated skirt and a high waist, complemented by her delicate fringed shawl, gold jewelry and a magnificent lace edged cap. Her left hand is visible, showing a wide embossed wedding band. Her chemisette is secured with a round pearl edged pin, possibly a carved coral cameo. Her hair is fashionably curled on either side of a central part, and she looks directly at the viewer. She sits on a couch with rounded arms and a red curtain is draped behind her. This portrait is an oil on canvas, likely from the European School, and based on the Lady’s clothing, circa 1820. The portrait measures approximately 29 3/8 inches by 24 7/8 inches (canvas) or 34 inches by 30 inches (framed). Provenance: from the Mr. Vito Giallo Collection. The portrait shows dust, frame abrasion, mold/mildew, slight cupping and flaking at lower left edges, stretcher marks, cracks throughout, abrasion marks at lower mid area on figure's dress, blooming varnish upper left, and cleavage lower right edges. Verso has dirt pockets, nail abrasions to stretcher bars and canvas edges, and abrasion marks throughout stretcher bars. Visible inpaint under UV Blacklight, mostly at upper surface. Notes: Frame also has wear. Not examined outside of the existing frame. The item(s) are antique and sold as is/as found unless otherwise noted.
