Description: ARTIST: V. Abel is a Danish artist of whom little is known. I can only find a few examples of his works and based on the ones which are dated, he seems to have been active from around 1890-1920. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a lovely, atmospheric rendering of a man fishing from his small boat in a creek during winter. The creek appears to be covered with a thin layer of ice and snow covers the ground and houses on both sides of the water. From the yellow house to the right, which could be the home of the man fishing, a small road leads to a bridge, which crosses the creek just behind the man. In the background is a small house with a smoking chimney and a small flock of birds – presumably gulls – can be seen in the grey winter sky. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1910-1920. Signed: “V. Abel” in the lower right corner. SIZE: With frame: 47,5 cm/18.7" * 39 cm/15.4". Without frame: 31,5 cm/12.4" * 23 cm/9.1". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
