Description: Normal 0 21 false false false DA X-NONE X-NONE ARTIST: Frederik Rohhde is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bruun Rasmussen, Christie’s and Van Ham fine art auctions. He was a popular exhibitor at the famous Charlottenborg and he also exhibited at the Paris World Fair in 1855. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1830-1834 and went on study trips to Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. He favors landscapes and is particularly fond of winter scenes. There’s a story about how he, on a study trip to Italy, missed his home and started to paint Danish winter scenes from sheer memory. Today some of his works can be found in different art museums in Denmark. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a cozy and atmospheric rendering of 2 boys playing on a frozen lake. One boy is kneeling beside a stick or fishing rod and the other one is holding on to his sled. To the right is a small wooden pier. Behind the lake is a wooden house and to the right of it, a mother and her daughter are headed home. A cold winter sky adorns the background. I’ll date the painting to somewhere between 1870-1886. The painting is unsigned, but an old written inscription on the back of the frame ascribes it to Frederik Rohde and based on the scene, style and age of the frame etc., I believe, he is the artist. SIZE: With frame: 42 cm/16.5" * 34 cm/13.4". Without frame: 30,5 cm/12" * 22,5 cm/8.9". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
