Description: this is an incredible antique Victorian oil painting showing a landscape with a bird dog watching a grouse sitting on the side of a hill where the grouse is looking away from the bird dog - the brownish foliage in the hills beyond the dog suggests that the time is early fall - the very talented but unknown artist painted the large sky section of the painting in a beautiful pale blue color with off-white grayish clouds floating through the sky - the bird dog has a brown head & neck & an off-white body with small brown patches with a brownish-white tail pointing skyward - the grouse has brownish colors with flecks of white - the grouse & dog's colors contrast nicely with the shades of green in the grass & small foliage around them - what sets this beautiful painting off is its wonderful Victorian gilded gesso on hardwood frame within a frame - the inner frame is remarkable whereas it has a molded gilded "chain" which goes around the perimeter of the entire painting lending a further luxurious feel to the whole picture - outside of the interior "chain" frame is an incredibly ornate gilded outer frame which also lends a luxurious element to the whole aura of the painting - this painting clearly came from some high-end Victorian home in New England where the original owner would have had this painting hanging in his private den along with his hunting trophies - the painting measures 14" x 21" sight size, & is in remarkable condition for its antique age - it is surrounded by its original Victorian gilded gesso on wooden frame which measures 22" x 30", & is also in very good antique condition - the frame is also quite heavy for its size - this painting can be picked up by the buyer at my home in Swanzey, NH to avoid shipping costs -
