Description: This is a rare and seldom seen pattern by Mason's that is hand painted "Gilded Leaves and Wheels", as illustrated on page 139 of Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by the Mason's Collectors' Club. The platter is 17 inches in length, 13 inches in width, and 1.25 inches in height. It is much larger than other early Imari-inspired patterns that you may occasionally find on other sites and displays beautifully. The platter is fully marked on the underside to the base of the rim with the early impressed mark stating "Mason's Patent Ironstone China," dating to circa 1813 to 1820, the time period during which that single line impressed mark was used, with Mason's Ironstone only starting production in 1813. I have another slightly larger 19 inch footed platter in the same pattern with the same impressed mark that I will be listing in the future. That platter has shallow troughs on the front surface that appear to be to allow juice runoff from carved meats. The listed platter is available for inspection or pick-up at my Oak Park, Illinois home.
