Description: This is an Antique Japanese Satsuma Black/Gold Lacquer Box made for the Shimazu Clan by the artist Nakajima. This piece is marked Satsuma, with the crest of the Shimazu clan, and the decorator Nakajima. This Japanese ceramic dates to the first quarter of the 20th century, Meiji-Taisho Period. The outside is hand-painted black and gold with white and teal accents. The inside of the box and the lid both feature a beautiful hand painted bouquet of flowers in pink, red, and orange.
