Description: A rare antique French Quimper faience cider server designed by Alfred Beau for the Porquier Beau factory in 1885. One side features a woman spinning wool and the other a woman knitting by the fireplace with a sleeping baby in the background. Both scenes are exquisitely executed by the Porquier Beau artists on a spherical surface. A nearly identical cider pitcher is shown in Quimper Pottery, A Guide to Origins, Styles, and Values by Adela Meadows on page 112 (see last photo). Unmarked. In very good antique condition with a glaze chip and wear to the spout tip (photo), one small chip to the edge of the base (photo), an area of glaze crawling from production on the base (photo), glaze crawling and wear to the handle elbow (photo), occasional burst glaze bubbles (largest shown in photo), and accumulated dirt in fine crevices. Lid is NOT original, but a reproduction. Approximate dimensions are 10 1/2" tall x 8" wide x 5 1/2" deep.
