Description: One Electreat electric device circa 1919. Includes original instructionsas shown but they are very fragile. Also includes the massaging device plus acouple of attachments. Here’s some other info about this neat little gadget: The Electreat electrotherapeutic machine was patented in1919 by Charles W. Kent (b. 1874), of Peoria, Ill., and sold widely around thecountry until the mid1950’s as a cure for aches and pains and emotionalillnesses. After many complaints that the device was ineffective, Federal agents seized several Electreats in1941; noting that they consisted of flashlight batteries, a small electricalcoil, buzzers and attachments for applying electricity to various parts of thebody. They argued successfully in federal court that the items were misbranded asmedical devices under the auspices of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and urgedthe company to stop selling the device as medically relevant.
