Antique CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS Memorial Hall souvenir dish PITTSBURGH w/ no H

Description: A RARE & BEAUTIFUL old 5 1/4" wide antique china souvenir plate from the SOLDIERS & SAILORS Memorial Hall PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. Note that the name Pittsburg does NOT have an H at the end of it. It was spelled PITTSBURG from 1890 - 1911, so this plate is DEFINITELY over 100 years old. This is a very early 'J&C' China Co. Bavarian antique plate. Plate reads: "Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall, / Pittsburgh, Pa." Backside of plate is marked, "J & C / Bavaria." Condition: Plate is in nice clean condition. Plate has some edge & base wear, and the gold gilt edge is worn. There is some scratching on the golden field painted around the word "Hall"This is clearly seen in photo #2. Otherwise it is excellent with NO cracks, hairlines, chips, dings, damage, etc.. (See picture for overall condition). Age: A TRUE ANTIQUE, ca. late 1890's - early 1900's. This Memorial is one of Pittsburgh's oldest and best known historical landmarks and the Nation's only Military Museum dedicated to honoring the men and women of all branches of service. Conceived in the 1890's to honor soldiers of the Civil War, the museum was dedicated in 1910 and contains artifacts of all conflicts from the Civil War to the present day. Note that the backside of this plate has a 'J&C China' mark, a mark that is not commonly seen on old souvenir china pieces but a mark that authenticates this plate as genuinely antique. Old souvenir china pieces like this are always fun to collect as 1) they have the town and state that they are from on them along with whatever they are a souernir of, 2) have colorful scenes, pictures, designs, logos on them, 3) are easy to authenticate when they have the mark stamped on back. What is exceptionally nice about this one is that it has a picture of the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial building.
