The top of the trunk is stamped with "WARRANTEED SOLE LEATHER WITH STEEL SPRINGS". The interior lid is fitted with a red leather organizational compartment. The lock works and the key is included! Leather straps buckle Sole leather trunks were only made prior to 1910. Others of this style have been dated to the 1870s. These top-opening travel trunks were the type popular with travelers going west on stagecoaches and wagons and have been used as props in Western movies. Collected in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
