The stiletto consists of an elaborated cast and chiseled, silver-plated copper hilt in Neo-Renaissance style with a flattened grip, short quillons, and a pronounced pommel. The sturdy, tapered, double-edged steel blade of a diamond cross-section has a very sharp point. The dagger is signed illegibly on ricasso by the maker, possibly in the Cyrillic alphabet. The casting is of very good quality, the intricate design of the hilt shows great details, the silver plating is very thick and resembles old Sheffield silver plating made by fusion process rather than a thin electroplating technique where the metal surface is covered with a thin layer of silver. The dagger has a very unusual silk fabric scabbard inserted for reinforcement with a sturdy iron plate. These types of daggers were popular amongst gentlemen in the 19th century during the Victorian era. They were kept on a gentleman's desk as a real weapon for defense in an unexpected situation. MEASUREMENTS: Overall length: 23 cm (9.06 inches) CONDITION: Good condition for its age, silver plated hilt with old patina, worn silk scabbard with tears and stain. It shows its age and usage.
