Description: SHEVCHENKO Ukranian-Russian Poet USSR PLASTER BUST Sculpture Taras Shevchenko [1814-1861] was a Russian/Ukranian poet, artist, and intellectual who is now considered to be a Ukranian hero. Genuine Antique 1880s Victorian sculpture bust. The bust is modeled after a portrait painting of Shevchenko done by Ivan Kramskoi in 1861 upon his return from exile. He was thrown in prison by the Tsar, worked in forced labor camps, but always found a way to write poems, paint, and express his great love for his native Ukraine. He is now on Ukranian currency. 7.25" high, 6 7/8" wide and 3.5" deepVery good antique condition, genuine 1880s hand poured plaster cast. He does have a visible spot missing at the tip of his nose which looks like an air pocket bubble from the casting process. There are a few very minor scrapes, pocks, and small rub marks here and there [see all pics and use zoom] which is to be expected for a 100+ year old piece. No repairs or cracks, very stable and solid, heavy, beautiful aged patina. See all pics and use zoom, as photos are a part of the description. He has age-appropriate wear which adds to the charm of the piece. I've photographed him in indoor and outdoor lighting for an accurate look. A magnificent collectible, extremely rare.
