A Brief history on Albumens Albumen photographs were a popular type of photographic paper in the 19th century, dominating the field from around 1855 to about 1890. The albumen printing process originated from William Henry Fox Talbot's "Photogenic Drawing" process. However, it was Louis Désiré Blanquart-Evrard who improved the use of albumen in photography by discovering that dispersing the chlorides of salted paper in egg white produced a positive printing-out paper with exceptional detail and contrast. Photographers around the world responded favorably to the new printing process, and albumen paper became the dominant photographic printing method. However, the deterioration of albumen prints is more advanced compared to other photographic papers, with 85% of them having a yellowish-brown stain and overall image fading [. Eventually, albumen photographs were replaced with new developing processes. Track Page Views WithAuctiva's Counter
