Description: Black Men Cotton Yard Central Railroad Savannah GA - Wilson & Havens Stereoview Black Americana About The Photographer:O. Pierre Havens (1838--1912) was born in Ossining, New York and first partnered with J. N. Wilson in Savannah, Georgia. In 1888, Havens relocated the business to Jacksonville, Florida where he became an award-winning Florida photographer and wrote articles for American Annual of Photography and other publications. He was a pioneer of platinum photographs in 1895; introduced a process called the Carbonnette; in 1896; and was known for his high-quality stereoviews.Jerome N. Wilson was a professional photographer in Savannah during the late 19th century. He was a native of New York, born in 1827, and arrived in Savannah around 1865. He marries Bridget Vaughan, a native of North Ireland, that same year and fathered eight children with her. Three of his children died during an outbreak of diphtheria in late 1879. The other five lived on until adulthood. He advertised as a photographer of cabinet cards, carte de visits, stereographs, ferrotypes, frames, and other photographic services. His success was mixed and he was involved in a number of lawsuits, large and small, some as trivial as an overhanging sign. Much of his property was lost due to these suits. He partnered with several photographers over the years. He continued to do photography work in Savannah until 1896. In February of the following year, Wilson passed away at his residence of 309 York St from complications of facial cancer. Please See our other views.
