Description: This rare Roman Dupondius (AE As) dates back to 54-68 AD when Nero was Caesar. The obverse displays a bust of Nero facing left with inscription "NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG", translated "Nero, son of the deified Claudius, Caesar Augustus Germanicus Imperator, (exercising the) Tribunician Power" The coins reverse presents the Temple of Janis with closed doors and the inscription "PACE P R VBIQ PARTA IANVM CLVSIT", generally translated "Since the Peace of the Roman People is everywhere, the doors of the temple of Janis be closed" It is believed that the coin was issued following the cessation of the successful campaigns against the Parthians, and was probably discontinued when the Jewish war broke out in 66AD, likely causing the doors of the Temple of Janus to reopen.
