A limited mintage of only 700 GENRIC UNCIRCULATD examples were struck with no special care or grading to be sold as commercial ventures. While these "Generic GEM UNCIRCULATD" labels are collectible, they are worth only a fraction of the value of the designated first 50 struck using the same Space Flown materials but with extra special care and preservation and immediately certified as PERFECT MS70 by NGC (the highest obtainable grade possible for any certified coin or medal). Further to distinguish these special PERFECT MS70 graded examples, each was slabbed with a very desired HAND SIGNATURE label of NASA Astronaut and Apollo11 Command Module Pilot (one of only 24 men to fly to the Moon) , Michael Collins. This offering is for the HOLY GRAIL of Apollo 11 Robbins Medallions (the 50 oz special Silver Strike) and from the very FIRST DAY of ISSUE - made with extra care and multiple die strikes to bring out the beautiful high relief definition of the Apollo 11 emblem design used on the Apollo 11 Robbins medallion for the historic First Lunar Landing Flight ! Michael Collins who later became a credited Artist in retirement, proposed and partially designed the actual adopted mission emblem for the Apollo 11 mission and this medallion. This Robbins medallion die was also created from the original 1969 Robbins dies incorporating a Bald eagle ( our National symbol ) with an Olive Branch clutched in his beak. NASA folks later tweaked the final Apollo 11 Mission emblem to move the Olive Branch to the eagles claws out of concern the landing of the American Bald eagle with claws outstretch might present a negative aggressive warlike presentation so the Olive Branch clutched into the claws of the landing Eagle better represented the Peaceful intention of the mission specific and the US role in space exploration In any case, if you are a Space Geek like me and want something that is rare, well this one is 100% all of that and the Michael Collins HAND SIGNATURE label makes even all the more desired rare and valued going forward.
