Description: Two (2) stereoview photographs of the Crystal Palace at Sydenham in London, England, circa 1850s to 1860s. No photographer or publisher identified. The two views, both identified on the back in faint pencil as Crystal Palace, London, show the exterior and interior of the large glass building. The top view shows fountains in a park in the foreground with the distinctive Crystal Palace building rising up behind them. The bottom view shows the opulently decorated interior with plants, statues and fountains. Built for the Exhibition of 1851 at Hyde Park, this unique structure was moved to a location next to Sydenham Hill in 1854. It remained a popular attraction until destroyed by fire in 1936. The two stereoviews are in good or better condition with light wear and soiling. The top view has damage at the top left corner. Note the rubbing at the other corners of the card. The photographs in both exhibit good or better tonal range and show good or better detail. The top view is delicately tinted in blue, green, brown, and light brown. A nice pair of early Crystal Palace images!
