Description: Nice 19th century bronze after the Houdon original. 4 3/4" tall. Finely cast portrait bronze bust of the great philosopher, writer,educator and natural scientist Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) after the original executed in 1780 by Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828). Wrapped in a toga and wearing the headband Houdon referred to as the "ribbon of immortality" in his hair, it shows the famous philosopher in the antique style popular at the time. Unsigned with excellent original patina with light chemical verdigris highlights and some surface grunge. It stands 4 3/4" tall. No signature or marks.
