Description: 1977 Solomon Islands 2, 5, 10 Dollars Uncirculated Banknote Specimen Set w/ COA "Solomon IslandsThe traditional and the modern are successfully blended in the attractive banknotes of the Solomon Islands.The overall design reflects the geometric character of Solomon Islands decoration, which, with its strong lines and angled shapes, is remarkably modern in feeling. The basic design provides a harmonious setting for the fascinating figurative elements - birds, fish, and woodcarvings - that are also traditional to the Islands' culture.All three notes bear a finely engraved portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and a central panel on which is superimposed the denomination.The shell discs found at the right of the royal portrait are security devices. These shapes, representing articles made out of thousands of shells, appear in identical positions on both sides of the note. This is achieved by a sophisticated banknote printing technique and makes the task of the forger extremely difficult.The engraved vignettes on the backs of the notes illustrate typical Solomon Islands' scenes: spearfishing on the two-dollar note; the great Roviana Canoe on the five-dollar specimen; and the drilling of shells on the ten-dollar note.
