Description: 1976 $2 FRN Error note 20105969 funny fancy serial # B'day note 5-9-69 Celebrate NOW, understand, I show notes in the worst light possible. It's what the graders do at PMG, PCGS [when they are grading currency] and that's the only two I trust, and PMG, an affiliate of NGC is my top pick for grading. Many others are ok. When a grader looks at a note, he of course inspects the edges, corners, looks for ink marks not from the mint, creases folds and any foreign substances like the common dark brown spots. Those are not from the mint (to be correct, we should say, the BEP or Bureau of Engraving and Printing) They somehow get on a lot of bills. He also, of course looks for anything that has been added or "done to" the note [bill] or anything which detracts from what it looked like when it was 'hot off the press'. So,going up to the pictures, look first at the whole note and that is how it will look when you get it. It's nice and shows only the brown spots in the middle and a little to the right over the little 'Two Dollars" up near the margin. Then, you may have noticed a slight fold mark near Jefferson't ear. Yup, that's not nice to do to a beautiful note like this... Now to the layman's eye, that's about it for the note and it looks pretty durn good, and will if you keep it in a book, with a shiny plastic cover over it the note will be very acceptable and great conversation piece and should retain its value. Still though, a coupla things you need to look at [every note you look at should be viewed this way]. 1) hold it vertically under a light and look for folds, wrinkles, and so on. Hold it up with a powerful flashlight behind it and then look for little holes, anything which would take away from it's oringinal perfect form. 1a) Now you have to hang the note vertically from both ends to get a good look because light causes bad results if not done right. So I hang them from both ends, front and back so you can see what you're getting. I don't know of ANYONE who makes such a big deal of why their notes are not graded 70. How can a note with an error be graded a 70 {top grade}? Well, if all the printing is done good and proper, and the only negative is a BEP thing, it could be graded a 70, but I doubt it. 2) now do the same for the other side. I have done that for you and I can see that this note really is short of terrible negatives but enough to keep it from being uncirculated. OK, so far we know there are a few not so appealing items which detract from it's beauty and desireability to be in a collection. BUT... 3) This note has something few notes do, and I have been collecting those type of notes for more years than I like to admit. It's an ERROR NOTE! So, where's the error? Hold it up. Look at it. What is wrong? See it? The serial numbers are too low, as well as the seals. Green error & Black ink errors. Shifted serial numbers and seals. This makes it an error note. Someone at the BEP wasn't paying attention to the alighment on the printing. They do several printings on these notes, and one of them is the green seal and the black seal and the serial #'s. You can find these called many things, shift errors, alignment errors, ink errors, doesn't matter the name, they are official errors. I perhaps have about 100 error notes. Will absolutely help my retirement. So, now you've had a little class in grading, although we aren't going to worry about any grade except circulated, or uncirculated. I am going to call this one circulated due to the little anomolies, but it's still a great note, error, birthday etc... Thanks for looking. I hope you enjoyed and maybe learned something with me. If you would like to add it to your collection, good luck in the bidding. Best way to win it, is to bid last. Just a suggestion. Remember, questions are money too. Capt. BOH, BUY the way; & PS, Making an offer isn't a felony, I can say one of three things, 1) yes, 2) NO, and 3) I can make a counteroffer.Go ahead, get it before it evaporates right in front of your eyes. It happened tonight to one of my other similar notes.
