Description: CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Overall cosmetic condition is excellent for a vintage instrument, but possibly NEEDS OVERHAUL. I’m listing this as “used” condition because it’s in great shape and has been padded with white leather pads. These are expensive pads and are meant to last a long time, so it is possible that this instrument just needs some adjustment. This clarinet can be restored to like-new, playable condition. The pictures provided are of the actual instrument being sold and should be considered as part of the description. Body: a few light scratches, wood is dark and lovely, logos in good condition, no cracks or history of cracksKeys: silver plated, all keys move freely, excellent condition, very little plating lossTenons: excellent condition, tiny imperfections existPads/corks needs to be replaced; keys adjustedBell: one large scratch, logo is excellent, no cracks or history of cracksBarrel: good, a few scratches, logo is a bit worn, no cracks or history of cracksSprings seem to all be presentNo mouthpiece is includedMetal case, custom made, is in very good condition and is usable, as is (latches work, no musty smell) ABOUT THIS INSTRUMENT: For sale: a beautiful professional Selmer Series 10, Full-Boehm, Bb wood clarinet with silver plated keys. The Selmer 10 series was the first major model manufactured by Selmer to adopt a small bore undercut design, in the Buffet Crampon manner: The clarinet is extremely lively, easy to play, and has excellent intonation. The consensus among players seems to be that this clarinet sounds more like the R13 than other typical Selmer models. The benefits of the Full Boehm key system may be unknown to the reader, but I think I can sum it up. There is an articulated G# mechanism that allows an alternate fingering for difficult passages. It takes some time to get used to, but well worth the effort. There is also an extra spatula (right pinky) for the low Eb. This extra note gives this clarinet a comparable range to the A clarinet, making doubling on the A clarinet unnecessary. This particular instrument is in excellent condition for a vintage instrument. There are some scratches on the body, barrel and bell. The corks and pads seem to be in good condition, but I would still recommend getting it cleaned and completely overhauled. There is very little plating loss and the keys seem in very good adjustment (none are bent out of shape). This instrument was well cared for. The case is a custom job which is nice to have. Cases for full Boehm clarinets are impossible to find! This instrument, once overhauled, will make a beautiful looking and beautiful sounding professional instrument, acquired for a bargain price, compared to other professional instruments!
