Description: J & M Coin and Jewellery 1975 8 Coin Proof Set - Coinage of the PhilippinesProof Sets of the new 1975 Philippine coinage were the first to be minted for collectors in 67 years. The last time Proof Sets of Philippine coinage were struck for the public was in 1908. The coins pay tribute to great leaders of Philippine history and to the dynamic New Society of the Philippine Republic. All eight coins bear new designs and carry the inscription Ang Bagong Lipunan ("The New Society" in the official language of the Philippines). On September 21, 1972 President Ferdinand E. Marcos established the New Society, a program which has revitalized the industry and agriculture of the Philippines. Two new denominations are included in the 1975 coinage of the Philippines. The fifty-piso coin, minted in solid sterling silver, and the five-piso coin, minted in pure nickel, both pay tribute to President Marcos on his tenth anniversary in office. The twenty-five-piso coin portrays the great Philippine General Emilio Aguinaldo, a leader in the revolt against Spanish control of the islands. In 1899 he was elected president of the first Republic of the Philippines. The immortal Jose Rizal, national hero of independence, is depicted on the one-piso coin. The first Philippine painter to win international fame, Juan Luna, is featured on the twenty-five-sentimo coin. Another leader in the development of national cultural self-awareness was Francisco Baltasar, commemorated on the ten-sentimo coin. The illustrious patriot Melchora Aquino, known as the "Mother of the Revolution," is honored on the five-sentimo coin, minted for the first time with a scalloped edge. The one-sentimo coin also has a new shape for the first time this year — square with rounded corners. It portrays the warrior chieftain Lapulapu who led the resistance to Spanish conquest in the 16th century. The official coat of arms of the Republic of the Philippines appears on the reverse of the four coins of largest denomination. The reverse of the four smallest coins bears the seal of the Central Bank, which symbolizes the economic development of the nationCertificate of AuthenticityThis is to certify that the coin of the realm set accompanied by this certificate is legal tender in the Republic of the Philippines and is an original 1975 Proof Set minted by the Franklin Mint under Authorization of the government of the Philippines.
