1952 Cleveland Indians in COLOR with Jimmy Dudley DVD!

Description: 1952 CLEVELAND INDIANS Plus: 1950 INDIANS vs. SENATORS GAME Rare Sportsfilms, Inc. is the rights owner of this DVD Only the fourth oldest color baseball film ever made (w/sound) is now available from "Rare Sportsfilms"! (Several years ago we released the 1946 Pacific Coast League film on DVD, which was the first professionally made color baseball film, and also the 1947 Boston Braves the second oldest color film). Now Cleveland Indians fans can once again watch the 1952 edition of the tribe in beautiful color 60+ years after this original rare film was made! As a bonus, we are also including a black and white film of a 1950 Indians game vs Washington at Municipal Stadium. Narrated throughout by longtime radio voice of the Indians, Jimmy Dudley, this new 33-minute DVD is a must for Indians fans everywhere! The DVD opens with the highlights of the Indians game vs Washington at Municipal Stadium, Sunday afternoon June 25th, 1950. Starting pitchers are Early Wynn and Connie Marrero. The slugfest rocks back and forth in a battle of home runs, including boundary belts by Larry Doby, Ray Boone, pitcher Wynn, and a grand slam by rookie Al Rosen! Mickey Vernon and Sam Mele also connect for Washington. Wynn pitches 8 2/3 innings, winning with relief help in the 9th by Jesse Flores. The Indians' 1952 full-color promotional film begins with Spring Training at Hi Corbett Field, Tucson, Arizona and shows manager Al Lopez, the coaches and players in activities at camp. You'll see coach Mel Harder with pitchers Bob Chakales, Lou Brissie, Steve Gromek and Sad Sam Jones. Coach Tony Cuccinello is shown working with the Indians' keystone combo, Ray Boone and Bobby Avila. Larry Doby, Dale Mitchell and Harry Simpson are shown at bat and in the outfield. You'll also see big Luke Easter, Al Rosen and Jim Hegan. Shown in beautiful closeup color shots are the Indians "big four": Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, Early Wynn and Mike Garcia. Others associated with the club in those years are Doc Kelly and trainer Wally Bock. Emil Bossard and son Harold are in charge of the field in Tucson just as they were for many years in Cleveland. Traveling secretary Fred Goldstein is shown dispensing meal money, and broadcasters Bob Neal and Jimmy Dudley are shown interviewing players. You'll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it was like at Indians Spring Training in '52 as you watch Early Wynn selecting a steak in the hotel restaurant and Bobby and Mrs. Avila relaxing in the lounge with Larry Doby. On an off day Jim Hegan and Steve Gromek are shown touring a movie set in Tucson while catcher Birdie Tebbetts and Bob Lemon play a round of golf. A bit of a spring training game with the New York Giants is shown, with closeups of Leo Durocher and now-famous Bobby Thomson. The last 1/3 of the film begins with Opening Day at Cleveland, and after manager Lopez accepts the traditional horseshoe wreath at home plate for good luck, Feller's first pitch gets the season underway. Other events shown include "Bob Kennedy Night" and Little League Day. Teams from Newark, Massillon, Dayton and New Philly are shown before a big game against the World Champion Yankees. You'll see Casey Stengel with Lopez, plus Yogi Berra, Phil Rizzuto, Ed Lopat, Mickey Mantle, Gil McDougald and Hank Bauer. This is the oldest professionally shot color footage of every player in the '52 film, making this DVD a very special historical keepsake!
