Description: DESCRIPTION: Couture 1950s gown from Pierre Balmain. Fitted silhouette in champagne lace brocade on silk and silk organza details. Champagne and smoky blue organza pleated on sweetheart bodice drapes toward back and cascades down to floor. Elegant waistband buttons to cinch waist over organza train. Hand stitching and French seams throughout organza elements. Interior boned corset with hand finishing. Back Metal zipper. MEASUREMENTS: 34” bust 26” waist 37” hip 57” length LABELS: Pierre Balmain New York - Paris Julius Garfinckel & Co. Washington CONDITION: A bit of proper restoration will turn this piece into a wearable piece of art. Organza has discolored underarms. Organza pleating needs to be redone on shoulder straps and maybe repressed to define on bodice and back. Tiny hole on one pleat of bust and strap. Pinholes on pleats by zipper. Missing eye hook. Scattered age spots on brocade. 3” tear in brocade near front slit, .5” tear by hip, 4” tear below back zipper, .75” tear by back hem. There’s a good 3”-5” hem if extra brocade is warranted for repairs, but tears seem to be true tears not holes. Chiffon has 5 tears but 2 are undone seams. Scattered holes and spots. Worse damage is on the end panels that overlap with interior train panels. Could just be removed. I tried to describe and photograph all of the major condition issues. The blue organza is not faded or discolored on the train, the light and layers affected the look of the last photo.
