Sulzby, Jr.Birmingham Alabama: Birmingham Printing Company (1944); 1st & only edition of Sulzby's most difficult book to find - probably because it was issued during World War 2.Has 45 pages, bound in original red hardcover cloth binding. Illustrated with a map and with halftone photos of various Birmingham (in Jackson County) Buildings.Finished size is 6x9 inches; opens to 12 x 9 inches for reading.Few people know that Alabama has had 2 Birminghams! They have nothing to do with each other besides the name they shared. This one, from long ago in Jackson County, is more or less a dead town now. but was older than the Magic City of Birmingham.Sulzby, in keeping with his honorary title of "Mr Birmingham History" told me once that he felt obliged to let people in current Birmingham know that there was a second Birmingham at one time ;-}Illustrated with some great photos.Fine looking but this book is LIGHTLY EX-LIBRARY with tiny rubber stamps on the 3 viewable sides of the text block (see example from another similar book in scan #3 above); private collector bookplate on front pastedown; library rubber stamp on rear paste down, NO OTHER LIBRARY MARKINGS: No card pocket, no call #s on the spine, no marks at all on title page. Bought legally at recent auction of rare books from Birmingham Southern College which is closing its doors after 150 year. They recently auctioned off the rare book collection to help defray costs of closing :-{ __________________________________________________________ (the fine print ...
