Serial #6J 023240 In the years following World War I, the German economy was beset by hyperinflation. According to one source, by the time this note was printed, prices were around 325 times higher than they were immediately after the war in 1918. One year later, they had risen over one billion--with a "b"-- times more. In other words, a loaf of bread that cost one half mark in December 1918 cost about 160 marks in December 1922 and by November 1923 it cost about 201,000,000,000 marks.
