Description: This listing is for an early bound printing of “The Night Before Christmas,” dated 1883. It is the first time the poem appears in hardcover storybook form. This printing is known for its beautiful woodcut illustrations and attractive binding, which came in several variations. This variation is highly sought after. The book measures 6.5 x 7.5. Construction is ornately tooled leather with thick glossy paper and gilt titles/page edges. At 133 years old, it is in very good condition overall with moderate wear to the cover. Page signatures are a bit uneven, typical for this book because of the thick paper stock used. Note that the card-like paper is prone to breaking loose, so this book and its different variations should not be opened too wide (I used facsimile photos of the illustrations to avoid damage).
