Army RevolversPercussion and/or Cartridge Conversions of the original.(also known as the .44 Caliber New Model Army)~ Exclusive~MAGNA-TUSK™black ivory GRIPSwith scrollwork engravingBrand NewORIGINAL 1858 Remington Revolvers:These grips WILL FIT the ORIGINAL (Civil War era) .44 Caliber Remington 1858 “New Model” Army Revolvers with the standard 3-3/16” tall grip. Please note that the .36 Caliber Navy revolvers are built on a slightly smaller frame and therefore these will NOT fit the .36 Caliber version.HISTORY OF THE 1858 Remington:This style of revolver was manufactured by the firm of Eliphalet Remington & Sons and was used extensively during the American Civil War and were second in production numbers only to Colt’s offerings. These revolvers get their “1858” moniker from the patent date stamped on the New Model barrels, even though large scale production didn’t actually start until the year 1861.There were three progressive models made by Remington: first, the Remington-Beals Army & Navy (1860–1862, with major production ramping up in 1861); second, the 1861 Army & Navy (1862–1863); and third, the “New Model” Army & Navy (1863–1875). All versions appear similar but have subtle differences. The “New Model” (third) version in .44 Caliber was produced in greater numbers than all the others put together, and is the one most commonly encountered (and the one these grips will fit). The stamping “New Model” is found on top of the barrel under the company’s address line.Remington percussion revolvers are considered more accurate and more durable than the Colt offerings (which have no top strap), and were offered to the Government at $15.00 each, as compared to $25.00 for the .44 Caliber Colt. Even so, the Colts were purchased and used in larger numbers during the conflict, perhaps due largely to Colt’s superior marketing abilities. After the Civil War, both Colt and Remington revolvers (as well as many others) found their way out West and saw extensive use in settling the vast American frontier.PLEASE NOTE: As mentioned above, Remington used a smaller frame on their .36 cal. Navy revolvers. The grips in this listing will fit the .44 Caliber versions and measure right around 3-3/16” from the base to the extreme upper point. Please double check the measurements of your existing grips or gripframe to make sure you have the more common 3-3/16” measurement prior to ordering. Also, please note that these grips are made only for ORIGINAL Remington made revolvers and WILL NOT FIT modern reproductions made by Uberti, Pietta, Armi San Marco, Euroarms, or any other makers. If you have a Uberti or Pietta revolvers, we also have grips for these listed. Please let us know if you need help finding them, or if you have any questions. We are happy to help. Rev. 24102162 Arizona Custom Grips About Magna-Tusk™ Ivory and Stag Grips: Magna-Tusk™ Ivory and Stag grips, a product of Arizona Custom Grips, are manufactured out of our high-grade, high density ivory material designed from the beginning as a premium, high-strength grip material. Vastly superior to standard bonded ivory or stag found on most factory and other aftermarket grips, Magna-Tusk™ is capable of withstanding the heaviest recoil and impact, and is the toughest alternative grip material available today, while still retaining the pristine look of real ivory or stag. It is rock-solid, stable, and water, chemical, and oil resistant. It is flame and heat resistant, and is entirely void-free, with over 10x the strength, durability, and impact resistance of alternative materials. Unlike with real ivory or stag, there is no routine care and maintenance involved, with no danger of it drying out and cracking if not maintained properly or if left in the heat. It is filled with premium natural compounds to produce outstanding aesthetic properties and mechanical performance. When aged with our natural aging process, it takes on the equivalent of a 100-year-old patina, with subtle grain details which many experts cannot tell apart from the real thing. In addition, the material has a fine grain structure, which holds intricate detail for carvings, artistic relief work, etc., found on many historic grips. 08292000The photo used is a stock photo (a sample pair).
