It is from L'Abbe Barthelemy's Voyage du Jeune Anacharsis en Grece, published in Paris by Chez Etienne Ledoux, 1822. A copy of the title page is included. Anacharsis was a Scythian sage who traveled to Greece around 566 BC, there he studied with Plutarch, eventually becoming a Greek citizen and had a profound influence on later Greek Cynicism. The map is designed and engraved by Ambroise Tardieu, whose name appears in the title area of the map. It is not mounted nor matted, being sold as a single sheet as seen in the first pic. Overall, A Beautiful Map that will frame up nicely. Size: The map image area measures approximately 7 1/2 by 11 inches (19x28cm)on a 11 1/4 by 15 1/4" (28x38cm) page with a margin all around. Condition: The map is in Good condition for its age, printed on a bright heavy page, blank on the reverse, two horizontal folds and four vertical folds. There is some minor handling around the margin, a couple of light dampstains on the upper edge and a short edge tear reparied professional on the refevers, otherwise the image area is fairly clean and would frame up nicely.
