Description: 1811 Bank of England 3 Shillings Silver Bank Token - NGC AU50 - Rare Coin! Choice Bull-2063, ESC-407. Very Tough Coin to Find Close to Uncirculated & Totally Original! Great Eye Appeal! The Bank of England issued silver tokens of this type from 1811 to 1816, during the Napoleonic Wars, until recoinage in 1816. Worth three shillings, this example shows George III (1760–1820) in armour. Two bust types were used for the tokens. In the military type, George III is shown in armour, as here. The ‘laureate head’ type shows only the king’s head, wearing a laurel wreath. Beside the portrait of George III on this example is a Latin phrase meaning ‘George III by grace of God King’. It reads: ‘GEORGIUS III DEI GRATIA REX’. An oak wreath traces the edge of the token on the reverse. Inside, it reads: ‘BANK TOKEN 3 SHILL’, with the date. Two values of token were issued by the Bank of England. Tokens like this one, worth three shillings, weighed 15.2g and measured 35mm in diameter. Tokens worth one shilling and six pence weighed 7.2g and were 26mm across. Please Check out Our Web Site : antebellumnumismatics. com where you can see many new purchases and other listings.
