Description: These 19th century hand-forged wrought iron ship anchor chain links were pulled up by a lobster boat out of New Bedford, Massachusetts. At the time these links were made, New Bedford was the world’s largest whaling port. Roughly 1/3 of the vessels that left their port in search of whales were lost. The grain of the wrought iron shows the forge welds built up by the blacksmiths that forged these nearly centuries ago. This is an extremely sought-after material for blacksmiths and bladesmiths alike, but are just as well suited for nautical and historical decoration. Each link is roughly 12-13 lbs, 10.5 inches long x 6.5 inches wide, and 1.5 inches in diameter. These are my medium size links. They’ve all been separated from one another, but I have other listings in my eBay store with intact lengths of wrought iron chain if that’s what you’re looking for. Feel free to reach out with any questions!
