It will begin to light up and change between red, green and blue as soon as you apply power to the LED. It changes in a similar manner as the 3mm and 5mm RGB auto changing LEDs. If you hook up more than one in parallel they will not flash or change colors in sync. They may start off that way, but will quickly get out of sync.
