Leather belts may be original, but they don't run smoothly, loosen in cold, shrink in heat, crack, and slip more easily if oil gets on them. Plus, this throw-on belt saves you the hassle of measuring, gluing and/or sewing together. I've been using them for years, never had to replace one yet, and love their performance.
