This helps ease the shock of new water parameters. Diet They will happily eat many kinds of algae, and will gratefully accept cucumber slices, lettuce and spinach. For the most beautiful shells, feeding a calcium-enriched invertebrate food will yield the best results. Snails prefer harder water but can adapt to softer water if enough calcium is supplied through diet. Reproduction The population of these snails is self-regulating. In an aquarium with a lot of food, they will multiply. When food becomes scarce, they die off. Many fishkeepers believe that if your tank has a lot of snails, it is because your tank needs them to consume all the excess nutrients.
