This ring features a round natural "grape garnet" measuring 5 mm in diameter and weighing 0.60 carat. Garnet is not really a kind of a gem, but rather a family of closely related gemstone species. Technically this is a rhodolite garnet, which is a purplish variety of a mixed pyrope and almandite garnet species. Columbia Gem House has branded their deep-hued purple rhodolites from India as Grape Garnets (R). This gem exhibits dark, strong, reddish purple color and is borderline eye-clean clarity with many light, scattered inclusions, and it is of very good overall cut. Garnet is January's birthstone, and rhodolite has also been suggested as an alternate June birthstone; but this ring is a joy to own and wear regardless of your birth month! The center gem is flanked by six round full brilliant cut natural diamonds measuring 2.0 - 2.1 mm in diameter, and there are also two full cut accent diamonds each measuring 1.3 mm.
